The Transport Secretary has announced radical plans to fix the driving test backlog and end third-party profiteering. To stop bots reselling driving test slots for up to £500, only learner drivers will be able to book tests.
To cut the 21.8 week average waiting time, 36 MoD examiners will conduct tests, and exisiting examiners will get a £5,000 retention payment.
While these steps aim to bring fairness, the government admitted the goal of a 7 week wait by 2026 will be missed.
